PROGRAM OVERVIEW

B.Sc. (Hons.) Economics is a full-time, four-year graduation program in accordance with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.  The School of Economics offers a B.Sc degree with Major in Economics and Minor in Applied Econometrics with a total of 171 credits over eight semesters. The curriculum comprises of Major Courses (Domain-specific courses), Minor Courses, Multidisciplinary Courses, Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC), Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), and Value Addition Courses (VAC) along with mandatory Summer Internship Programme (at the end of the second year) with relevant NPTEL SWAYAM MOOC as optional courses along with regular courses. There is scope for getting a degree in Economics Major with a Minor in Financial Economics, as well. The Program will be flexible with multiple entry and exit points with re-entry options with certification as specified by NEP.

A student is eligible for certificate after completing 1 year (first two semesters) of study, a diploma after 2 years (first four semesters) of study, a bachelor’s degree after a 3-year (first six semesters) of study, and a bachelor’s degree with honours after a 4-year (with eight semesters) of study with research or without research.

The courses offered in the program are designed to give students a comprehensive academic experience that encompasses both theoretical knowledge as well as real life application of the theory. Special care is taken to develop analytical skill and academic curiosity.

Program Objectives

The program is designed to help students to learn Economics in the gamut of a well-founded education program that helps students to train in basic economic theory and understand the basic economic modelling. Students get access to a well-structured curriculum that is likely to support and augment the academic orientation and development of students to make them understand proper policy responses to economic problems both local as well as global. Students pick up quantitative skill and theoretical domain to understand various aspects of the subject necessary for getting a proper insight to the discipline to arrive at conclusions about the validity of economic theories through data analysis. The multidisciplinary courses make students learn effective communication. Students are expected to learn to work in close groups and address strategic and organizational challenges.

B.Sc. (Hons with Research) Major: Economics with Minor in Business Economics and B.Sc. (Hons with Research) Major: Economics with Minor in Environmental Economics & Management may also be available at the discretion of the School.
